Weird Science visits Alien Worlds as Mars Attacks

 

The cover of Weird Science issue 17 was homaged by Eclipse Comics Alien Encounters issue 8 with a touch of the Mars Attacks trading cards style added.

 

Mars Attacks itself would homage the same EC cover in issue 3 of the First Born series published by IDW.

 

Ghostbusters EC Comics Homages

IDW homaged EC with their Mars Attacks comics and continue the trend with the cover of Ghostbusters Get Real issue 2. Inspired by The Vault of Horror issue 25.

The Real Ghostbusters animated series also gave a nod to EC with a Weird Science style comic book cover featuring in the episode Mr Sandman, Dream me a Dream. 

Mars Attacks EC Comics Homages

IDW homaged EC comics Weird Science covers, in particular Wally Woods art work with their Mars Attacks First Born covers. Appropriate as Wally Wood helped design the Martian for Mars Attacks and EC comics were an influence in the creation of the original Mars Attacks Topps cards.

Mars Attacks Toys and Action Figures

Over the years Mars Attacks has had a few different action figure lines based on the property. The most well known being the Trendmasters line from 1996 that tied in to the Tim Burton movie and was based on the films designs. The was followed up by a wave of Martians based on the 90s Topps comic book designs which were far more EXTREME!!!! with viscious looking fang filled faces, overly muscular bodies and dynamic yet hard to stand poses.
Mezco produced a figure based on the original Topps trading card art work which is at a more adult collector standard to fit in with the likes of NECA toys.

Mars Attacks has also had multiple comic books published over the years. The 90s Topps comic which featured far different designs to try to appeal more to a 90s audience. The in the 2010s IDW picked up the license and gave us comics based far more on the original art and concept. Most recently Dynamite comics has launched their Mars Attacks comic book also using the iconic original designs. 

Weird Science Transforms to Mars Attacks

 A decade prior to working on the US IDW Transformers comics, artist Nick Roche provided art work for the Transformers UK fan group Transmasters UK and it's continued Generation 2 comic. Pictured are his covers for issues 25 and 26.

Transformers The Definitive G1 Collection

Transformers: The Definitive G1 Collection is a fortnightly partwork collection of hardback books published by Hachette Partworks in the UK. The series is made up of 80 volumes which will reprint the entire history of G1 Comics, from the 80s Marvel Uk and US series right through Dreamwave and on to the current IDW series.
Transformers comics have never reached the height in quality the Marvel UK series of the 80s and early 90s did with nothing but short lived (Generation 2) or lackluster (Titan and RID) attempts. This hard back book collection fills the void and finally offers the UK a great ongoing series of Transformers comics strips, many for the first time. 

Alas, poor Bludgeon

 Poor Bludgeon doesn't seem to have much luck. His time to shine finally came at the end of the Marvel Transformers comic when he gained leadership of the Decepticons after Scorponoks death only to have it ripped away by a returning Megatron in the first few issues of Generation 2. As illustrated here on the cover of issue 5 of the Marvel Transformers Generation 2 comic. In the alternate continuation of Marvels original series, Bludgeon didn't fair far better at the hands of Rodimus Prime as we can see with this homage cover to issue 96 of IDWs Transformers Regeneration One.
